FBI-Paris Hilton' worm called the year's worst

Newest version of Sober virus generates millions of e-mails

It looks like an e-mail from the FBI, or a note promising pictures of Paris Hilton -- but some anti-virus companies are now calling it the most widespread computer virus outbreak of the year.
Sober-Y, the latest variation of a computer virus that was first released almost two years ago, surprised analysts Tuesday by gaining traction and rocketing millions of e-mails around the world.
MessageLabs, a software company that filters e-mails, said it had stopped three million copies of Sober-infected e-mails in the first 24-hours after the virus began circulating. Paul Wood, a senior analyst at MessageLabs, said that as of 5 p.m. ET, the firm was trapping 200,000 copies of the worm each hour.

"It's surprisingly bad," said Mikko Hypponen, a virus researcher at F-Secure.com. "In sheer amount of e-mails, it's larger than any outbreak of the year." On Tuesday afternoon, F-Secure raised its threat level for the virus to its most severe rating. Other anti-virus firms also raised their threat levels during the afternoon.
Sober has been successful, experts say, because it piggybacks on earlier versions of the virus that have already infected computers. Those computers -- perhaps tens of thousands around the world, according to Symantec's Alfred Huger -- form a "bot-net" network that's controlled by the virus writer.
Valuable real estateAll those computers were instructed to send out spam on Monday that was laced with Sober-Y -- millions of messages that gave the virus a great head start at gaining traction. Essentially, the virus is using friendly computers to launch attacks and gather up new territory.
"The footprint for the bot-net is already quite large, so the virus has its own momentum," Huger said.
Symantec has received almost 2,000 submissions of the program from customers who were attacked by the worm, he said.
The virus writer uses the ever-expanding network to make money, Huger said. The bot-net is rented out to other spammers, who send their own versions of e-mail marketing pitches. And the virus author, according to Huger, steals personal information from infected computers and sells it to the highest bidder. "It's real estate to (virus writers), and it's really valuable real estate."
Another clever aspect of Sober-Y -- it includes both English and German versions, and selects the appropriate language based on an educated guess for each computer it attacks. Computers with e-mail addresses that end in .de get the German version, for example.
The virus is also spreading because its e-mail message is just enticing enough to trick recipients, said Huger. In addition to the Paris Hilton and FBI versions, other e-mails purport to come from German authorities who've caught a recipient downloading illegal music; or the CIA, accusing the recipient of visiting illegal Web sites. There's even a version that looks like it's an automatic message indicating an attempted e-mail has failed, known as a "bounce."
One piece of good news: To become infected, recipients must click on the attachment, which is zipped, then unpack the zipped file, and then agree to run the executable file that appears. That provides several chances for a consumer to realize something is suspicious.

PARIS CAR CRASH CAUGHT ON TAPE!

Paris Hilton's party parade ended with a bang Tuesday night after her latest boyfriend, Stavros Niarchos, plowed her brand new $162,000 Bentley into the back of a parked delivery truck.

It all happened outside the trendy Hollywood club Element, where a camera-shy Niarchos got behind the wheel of Hilton's ultra-expensive ride.

After Niarchos narrowly missed a bystander and hightailed it from the scene, a distraught voice could be heard from the car, saying, "Baby, I'm (expletive) scaring myself."

That's when the night turned from bad to worse. TMZ.com's camera caught up with the group, which included "Laguna Beach's" Talan Torriero, moments after police pulled over the car. Talan then made a startling confession, stating, "I'm the only sober one."

TMZ.com did not witness any evidence of a field sobriety test being given, and police let everybody get back into the Bentley. Stavros darted down an alley and hopped a fence, climbing back into the damaged ride on another street.

The damage to Hilton's car could cost as much as $7,000.

Paris Hilton's Mother Shocked By Steamy Pics

After dumping her Greek shipping millionaire fiancĂ©e, Paris Hilton was desperate to keep her relationship with another Greek shipping millionaire Stavros Niarchos a secret…

That was until the tabloids found out and splashed pictures of them canoodling on a beach everywhere, however this somehow managed to escape the attention of Paris’ mother who is either blind or just really dumb.

In a recently interview with New! Magazine Kathy Hilton was totally shocked when asked about her daughters relationship.

She said: "What relationship? Are you sure? I don't know about that.

"That is news to me. I met him a few years ago, but he hasn't been at our house. Oh God! Are there pictures of them together?"

She was told that yes, there were photo’s of the couple…

A shocked Kathy continued: "Are you kidding? Are they walking on the beach?"

She was then told that they were actually kissing each other and she said: "Oh my God! Oh my God!"

You’d think she would be used to seeing her daughter’s very public displays of affection by now?

Paris Hilton witness in kidnapping case

Paris Hilton has been subpoenaed as a witness in a criminal case.

"She's not charged with anything," District Attorney's Spokeswoman Jane Robison said on Tuesday. "She just happens to be a witness."

Riley pleaded not guilty, said his attorney, Ronald Richards. However, one of Riley's associates, allegedly told Hilton of Riley's alleged involvement.

"That was the basis for the probable cause to locate my client's photo, which coincidentally Joe Francis identified," Richards said.

The subpoena was served at the hotel heiress' Hollywood Hills home last week. Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, said she will "comply with the law" but "I don't see what contribution, if any, she's going to be able to make in that case."

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21. It was not known whether Hilton will be called to testify.

"Today, we're no longer friends," Ritchie said. "There's nothing that really happened, we've just grown apart."

Regarding playing the tape at the party, she added. "I would never do that. I'm sure it stirs up controversy, which I'm sure that she (Paris) loves but I really have nothing bad to say."

Paris Hilton picked on as a child

Paris Hilton's aunt has revealed how the spoiled socialite was bullied as a child.

Kyle Richards — the sister of Kathy Hilton — has had a close relationship with her niece since she was young.

And she is now lifting the lid on the spoiled socialite's childhood admitting she was picked on.

"There was jealousy and being picked on and I had to go down there a few times and straighten some people out because she was definitely picked on," she said on an A&E biography special on Paris. "People would hear the last name and she was always a beautiful girl and that doesn't make for making a lot of friends with girls. She always had this attitude that she didn't care what people thought but she definitely did."

Richards even revealed where Paris' love of animals stemmed from.

"She had every animal you could think of as a child," she said. "She had so many ferrets and dogs, cats, it would be nothing for her to stick a mouse in your purse and wait for reaction when you opened the purse and there was a big rat in there with a huge tail hanging out."

And she believes Paris' hoard of pets now is just her practicing to be a parent.

"She talks about wanting to be a mum. And all her animals are like her practicing. She will make a very good mum, very nurturing and she has good maternal instincts."

Paris has become famous for her partying antics and her rich girl attitude. But her younger sister Nicky insists the pair —who both have an empire of business ventures including clothing and perfume lines — are not spoiled.

"I hate it when people or newspapers say, the Hilton heiresses don't do anything. I mean what were you doing when you were 20 years old that was so important? Back off.

"My mother has always been very supportive of Paris and I and advising us to work. I don't understand these children who don't do anything. It is just very unfulfilling to me to just take your parents money and go shopping because you don't feel good about yourself."

But their father Rick says he still gives Nicky, 22, and Paris, 24, an allowance.

"In terms of the girls being able to support themselves they definitely can but what I do for them is that Kathy and I give them a monthly allowance which pays for their basics, their rent, their car payment and their cell phone bill which can be, depending on the month, quite large."

But one family who is not keen on Paris' spoiled ways was the Ledings who took Paris and Nicole Richie in while they filmed their reality show The Simple Life.

"When she first arrived I gave her the benefit of the doubt she has never lived life like this," said Janet Leding who had Paris milking cows on her farm in Arkansas. "But when she left I just thought she is a spoiled, rotten little brat who will never do anything. When she turned up she was the sweetest thing then next day I was like, 'where did that sweet girl go?'"

But Nicky says her sister is nothing like she is on the show and that she was just playing a character for it.

"Paris is nothing like her character on 'The Simple Life," said Nicky — who was originally pegged to co-star with Paris but turned the offer down. "Paris is like one of the best cooks you will ever meet. She is a neat freak. We live together and if I have dishes in the sink or clothes on the floor she will freak out.

"I think Paris learned so much by leaving New York and Los Angeles and our scene and going to middle of nowhere and seeing how everyone else lives and doing things she would never do. She wouldn't be milking cows in the middle of L.A I think she learned to appreciate what she has back home."

Paris and Nicky have made such a name for themselves that their dad laughs at how they have stolen the Hilton name.

"It is interesting that the Hilton name has been branded as a hotel name. But now with Paris and Nicky's success my poor father who has worked his whole life, people come up to ask if he is related to Paris and Nicky and they do it to me too. It is hilarious."
